Meet Mrs. Myrick!
I am excited to be starting my fifth year here at Immaculate Heart of Mary School!
My Education
In 1999, I obtained my Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Salisbury State University. Upon graduation, I began a career in radio promotions and marketing and continued in such a role until 2003 when I decided to follow my dream of becoming an early childhood educator. I returned to school and in May of 2003, I received my Masters of Arts in Teaching with a specialization in Early Childhood Education from Towson University.
My Career
Upon graduating from Towson University, I began a rewarding career as an early childhood educator for Baltimore County Public Schools, teaching two years of first grade and three years of pre-kindergarten at Woodbridge Elementary. In 2008, I decided to take some time away from the classroom to raise my two young sons. During that time, I continued to work part-time as a Title I Tutor for BCPS, delivering tutoring services in reading and mathematics to students in grades PreK through 5. Then, in the summer of 2012, as my youngest son was set to enter pre-kindergarten, I was offered the wonderful opportunity to join the team of teachers at IHM!
My Family
Mr. Myrick and I have been married for thirteen years and we have two sons. Connor is in third grade and Braeden is in sixth grade here at IHM. Our family is crazy about our Baltimore Birds...both the Orioles and the Ravens! We also have a golden retriever whose name is "Manny Machado"! He is lots of fun to play with!
Meet Miss Lori!
This is my fifth year here at IHM and I am thrilled to be working with Mrs. Myrick and our friends in K-M!
I earned a B.A in English and Writing in 1994 from UMBC and previously worked in journalism and editing. However, I have always felt a passion for working with children and have volunteered with children's programs in various capacities all through my life. Ultimately, I was fortunate to complete a 2-year term of national service through AmeriCorps, working on child hunger programs at the Maryland Food Bank. This full-time service was so rewarding that I continued to work as a Program Manager with Volunteer Maryland, an AmeriCorps Program of the Governor's office. This gave me the opportunity to work with nonprofits serving children across the state, as well as to mentor AmeriCorps members beginning their careers in national service.
Eventually, I left AmeriCorps to spend time at home with my son, Jacob. When I decided to return to work, I was blessed to find a position here, working first in the Pre-K classroom, and then making the move to Kindergarten. The best part of my job is that every day, I get to see the children learn something new about themselves, and to learn something new from them.
